Long time no blog...

The time has flown and I have not written! Today is a good point to begin again as I can report we finally have some snow - only a bit but it's enough to make it look pretty, it is also incredibly cold. Proper winter weather though and the way things should be. I feel lucky as I can enjoy it - not like the poor people stuck at airports or stations unable to move.

Today is also the winter solstice - the shortest day of the year where darkness is more than daylight. We had a beautiful sunset and there is absolutely no wind - perfectly wintry and calm. I spent some of this afternoon at my parent's house watching the many birds in the garden. There is a female blackbird that has become very territorial about the bird table - is very quite comical to see her chase away the other birds, she stayed there until it was practically dark guarding her post. The others do get in and grab food but I think they have to plan it for a quick attack!

Anyway, I am watching 'Smilla's Feeling For Snow' which is very seasonal and is also a film of one of my favourite books so it is time to cosy up on the sofa under my blanket with a cup of tea and appreciate the time of year. I also did my decorations this evening, although I am not a Christian to celebrate Christmas I do celebrate Yule - the original pagan festival, bringing greenery indoors, lighting candles and giving thanks to the Earth and all it gives, resting now ready to burst forth in spring. Very poetic aren't I?!
Blessings.

Brilliant charity

http://www.chernobyl-international.com/

This is a link to Chernobyl Childrens Project International - a fantastic charity providing continung work in Belarus, Ukraine and surrounding areas to care for the children and families affected by the ongoing problems caused by the Chernobyl disaster, things are not getting better and children are still being born with terrible health defects both physical and mental.

I do not mean to go on but I am now supporting this charity and thought I would mention it - what are blogs for?!

Peace all!

Wedding belles

Again another week of not posting - this time due to the wedding of the freind I went to the hen-do of the other week. It was also the baptism of their son after the wedding so it was a great day. My other half was busy though as he was best man at the wedding then had to change hats to be a godfather at the baptism. I felt lucky just to be able to be there and take it all in. We had the party afterwards at a local pub and most of our friends were there so it was a fabulous day. The day after we gathered up the gifts and took them back to the house for them to come home to which was lovely, we then chilled for most of the day - well deserved I think!

Today it was back to normal pretty much, up at 11ish and work to be done. It is now about 12.30am and the moon is very low and big in the sky - bright too and for once we have no cloud, you can tell ny the temperature! So I shall crack on with various jobs but first will make a cup of tea to warm my hands if nothing else.
Night all.

Medieval-tastic!

Had a mad week last week getting ready for the Ludlow Medieval Christmas Fayre, set up on Friday and did two days and one evening of trading. We had a brilliant time though - had some very nice neighbours and sold lots which is kind of the point so I am very happy. The costumes worked well again and it wasn't too cold - very wet though but it doesn't really matter once people are in a marquee! Got in last night after taking the stall apart and unpacking the car, treated ourselves to a very non-medieval pizza and sat under a blanket on the sofa warming up. Nice.

The moon will be full again on Wednesday so I think the waxing atmosphere helped me attract customers - thank you moon. Tonight is very clear and cold, more like proper winter with stars dotting the sky, quite magical.
Blessings!
